Can I go inside or tour the Chrysler Building?

Unfortunately, the observation deck of the Chrysler Building is no longer open to visitors or the public, closing in 1945. Tours of the Chrysler Building's interior are not available, as the skyscraper is leased to private companies as office space. Visitors are invited to admire the Chrysler Building's architecture and art deco design up close in the lobby, which is open to the public on weekdays.

Why is the Chrysler Building famous?

Considered to be the foremost example of art deco-style architecture, the Chrysler Building is world-renowned for its design. At the time it was built in 1930, the Chrysler Building was the tallest in the world and the first man-made structure to rise above 1,000 feet at 1,046 feet, including the spire. The designation was short-lived as the Empire State Building surpassed the skyscraper in height in 1931. In addition to its groundbreaking art deco design, the Chrysler Building remains the tallest steel-supported brick building in the world.
